AI bookkeeping for QuickBooks Online
If you are staying on QuickBooks, most of this category is irrelevant to you. These are the products that work inside your existing file — plus an honest look at the AI Intuit already bundles into your plan.
11 products · pricing verified September 4, 2026 from vendor sources ·how we evaluate
The short version
Only 9 products in our dataset state outright that they work with a QuickBooks Online file. Another 2 support it conditionally, and 7 do not say at all.
Meanwhile 4 of the best-known “AI bookkeeping” products are not compatible with QuickBooks in any useful sense — they want to be your ledger. That is a legitimate product; it is just not what you are shopping for if you are keeping QuickBooks.
Start by checking what you already pay for
QuickBooks Online now bundles Intuit Intelligence into every plan: categorization, an AI chat assistant, and — from the Plus tier up — AI reconciliation, profit-and-loss insights, anomaly detection and sales-tax AI. List pricing runs $38 (Simple Start) to $340 (Advanced) a month.
That matters for two reasons. First, if you are on Simple Start and struggling with reconciliation, an upgrade may solve the problem more cheaply than a third-party tool. Second, when you compare a $129/month AI layer, the correct comparison is against QuickBooks-plus-its-own-AI, not against a blank ledger.
Caveat worth knowing: the AI chat assistant is capped at 25 questions per month and was in beta when we verified this. Full QuickBooks Online profile →

Not published means the vendor does not state it. We do not fill gaps with guesses. How this table is built
Products that replace QuickBooks rather than work with it
These appear in “AI bookkeeping for QuickBooks” search results because they market QuickBooks migration. Adopting one means leaving QuickBooks, not augmenting it.
Digits
AI-native general ledger with named agents that categorize, reconcile and close — no QuickBooks underneath.
Finaloop
Real-time accounting built specifically for ecommerce and retail, including inventory — the one vertical where generic AI bookkeeping usually breaks.
Kick
Free-tier AI bookkeeping aimed at solo operators, with an MCP/CLI interface from the paid tier up.
Puzzle
AI-first accounting software positioned explicitly as a QuickBooks replacement, with the cheapest published entry price in the category.

Products that do not state QuickBooks compatibility
We do not record these as incompatible. We record them as unverified, which is a different and more useful claim.

Before you connect anything to your books
- Check write access. Does the tool write journal entries and categorizations back into QuickBooks, or only read? Read-only tools cannot save you the labour.
- Check the audit trail. Every automated change should be attributable and reversible. If you cannot see what the AI changed and undo it, do not connect it to a live file.
- Test on a copy or during a trial. Run one full month in parallel before you trust it. Our accuracy test protocol is a two-hour version of what a proper benchmark would do.
- Agree the escalation rule with your accountant. Decide in advance which categories the AI is not allowed to decide alone — owner draws, intercompany transfers, anything touching equity.

Questions buyers actually ask
Does QuickBooks Online already have AI bookkeeping?
Yes, and you are already paying for it. Intuit Intelligence features — expense categorization, an AI chat assistant (capped at 25 questions a month in beta at the time of writing), reconciliation help, anomaly detection and sales-tax AI on higher tiers — are bundled into the plan price rather than sold separately. Before buying a third-party layer, work out whether the QuickBooks AI you already own is actually the bottleneck.
What does “works with QuickBooks” actually mean?
Three different things. Some products are invited into your QuickBooks Online file as an app and write back to it — that is real compatibility. Some sync one way for reporting. And some say “QuickBooks migration included”, which means the opposite: they want to replace it. Read the direction of the arrow before you buy.
Will adding an AI layer break my accountant’s workflow?
It should not, if the layer writes into your existing QuickBooks file and leaves an audit trail. That is precisely the argument for augmentation over replacement: your accountant keeps working where they already work. Tell them before you switch it on, agree who owns the exception queue, and agree a rule for what the AI is not allowed to decide on its own.
Is Xero cheaper than QuickBooks for the same thing?
At list price, substantially — Xero runs $25 to $90 a month against QuickBooks Online at $38 to $340. The trade-off in the US is ecosystem: more accountants default to QuickBooks, and a few AI bookkeeping products support QuickBooks only. See AI bookkeeping for Xero.
What if a vendor does not say whether it supports QuickBooks?
Treat that as a no until they tell you otherwise in writing. 7 of the products we track do not state QuickBooks Online compatibility anywhere in their published material. We list them as unverified rather than guessing, and they are excluded from the table above.
