Which bookkeeping solution is actually right for your business?
Not another ranked list. 21 products documented from primary sources with the date we read them, the gaps marked as gaps, and two tools that turn the data into a decision.
Data verified September 4, 2026. How we verify.
Start with the decision, not the product list
The expensive mistake in this category is not picking the wrong product. It is picking the wrong kind of product — the price gap between them is roughly 10×.
The four categories, and what separates them
| Category | Products | Your general ledger | Who is accountable | Typical entry price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ledger with built-in AI | 2 | It is your ledger | You | $25–$38/mo |
| AI layer on top | 5 | Unchanged — reversible | You | $129–$200/mo |
| AI-native platform | 4 | Replaced — a migration | You | Free–$300/mo |
| AI + human service | 12 | Theirs or yours — check | The provider | $99–$494/mo |
| Firm platform | 6 | Your clients’ ledgers | Your firm | $53–$250/client |
Price ranges are the lowest published entry price per product in each category, from our verified pricing data.
By your situation
I am staying on QuickBooks
Fewer products qualify than the marketing suggests — and you already pay for AI you may not have tested.
I am on Xero
A third of QuickBooks' list price at the top tier. Here is exactly what you give up in ecosystem.
I sell physical products
Inventory and COGS eliminate most of the category before price is discussed.
I want real agents
Which products ship workflow agents, and which let your own agents query the ledger.
I just want the prices
Every published plan, add-on and per-client rate in one comparable table.
I am down to two
Head-to-heads on the dimensions that actually change the decision.
Product profiles
Each one carries published pricing with sources, a full capability matrix, an explicit list of what we could not verify, and a plain statement that we have not tested it.

Why this site is different from the others you found
We never turn silence into a fact
If a vendor does not state whether it supports Xero, our tables say “Not published”. They never say “No”. Filling gaps by inference is how most comparison tables in this category end up wrong.
We do not claim to have tested anything
Nobody has independently measured these products, including us. Every page says so. Our benchmark protocol is published before the results so it can be criticised first.
Prices come from the vendor, with a date
Not from review aggregators, not from other affiliate sites, and never estimated. 31 sources across 21 records, each with the day we read it.
Commercial status cannot reach the ranking
The scoring code does not import the affiliate module — an architectural constraint, not a promise. And right now there is nothing to import: we earn no commission from any vendor here.
The evidence gap we are trying to close
Search results for this category are full of accuracy claims — “up to 98% auto-categorization”, “automates ~85%” — every one published by the company selling the product, none with a test set or a methodology.
We are building an independent benchmark: a labelled 500-transaction set, an error taxonomy that separates a harmless miscoding from a consequential one, and results published with a vendor right of reply. The protocol is up now, before any results exist.

Common questions
What is the best AI bookkeeping software?
There is no single answer, and any page that gives you one has skipped the question that matters. The category contains three different purchases: a ledger with AI built in, an AI layer on top of the ledger you already have, and an AI-native platform that replaces it — plus done-for-you services, which are a fourth thing entirely. The right choice depends on whether your books move, who works the exception queue, and what your own hours are worth. Our software finder applies those constraints to all 21 products we track.
How much does AI bookkeeping cost?
Software runs from free to about $245 a month at entry. Done-for-you services with a dedicated team start at $99 and go past $494, before tax filing, payroll or CFO work — which are separately priced almost everywhere. 6 of the 21 products we track publish no complete pricing at all.
Is AI bookkeeping accurate?
Nobody can answer that with evidence. Every accuracy figure in this category is vendor-published, with no shared test set, no defined error taxonomy and no independent verification — and we could not find a single reproducible third-party comparison. We are building one, and we published the protocol before the results so it can be criticised first.
Does AI Ledger Intelligence earn commission on these products?
Not currently. We have no affiliate relationship with any vendor listed, so no link on this site earns anything today. The intended model is affiliate commission, disclosed in full and structurally separated from ranking — the scoring code cannot read affiliate status at all.
