Xero is the second general ledger the AI bookkeeping ecosystem builds against, and it undercuts QuickBooks Online substantially at list price — $25 to $90 per month versus $38 to $340. Its AI surface is JAX (Just Ask Xero) plus smart document capture, included across plans. For US buyers the practical trade-off is ecosystem: fewer US accountants work in Xero by default, and a handful of AI bookkeeping products support QuickBooks only.
